ACCOR SERVICES USA WINS ENVIRONMENTAL BUSINESS JOURNAL BUSINESS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

22 Mar 2007

by:

Accor Services USA, a leader in innovative employee benefits solutions and premier provider of national commuter benefit programs, announced that it has been chosen for an Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) 2007 Business Achievement Award. A winner in the “Project Merit: Sustainability & Resource Protection” category, the company is recognized for growing its Commuter Check and WiredCommute benefit programs to 300,000 participants across the United States and for its efforts to make tax-free commuter benefits a staple in employee benefits packages throughout the American workplace to help protect the environment. The complete list of EBJ Award Winners will appear in the Executive Review issue of EBJ due out this month and is available on the EBJ Website at http://ebiusa.com/EBJAwards.

“We are grateful to be recognized for our efforts with this award from the Environmental Business Journal as we strive to educate the marketplace on the connection between commuter benefit programs and the environment,” said Gerard Bridi, President, Accor Services USA-Commuter Benefits. “and to create programs for our clients to help with carbon footprint reduction that fit with their overall corporate sustainability policies. Every person who takes public transportation to commute helps protect our environment, and every person who takes advantage of a tax-free commuter benefit can also save money doing it.”

More than 300,000 people participate in the Commuter Check and WiredCommute programs. By the EPA estimate that 1.5 gallons of gas are used per commuter per day, these 300,000 participants save 450,000 gallons of gas every day they take public transit instead of commuting in a single-occupancy vehicle. In addition, based on an average commute of 100 miles per week per commuter, those 300,000 participants save 9.3 million pounds of hydrocarbons, 69 million pounds of carbon monoxide, 4.5 million pounds of oxides of nitrogen and over 1.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide each year (calculated using the Accor Services USA Emissions Savings Calculator). This equates to supplying energy for 100,000 households each year.

The 2007 EBJ Business Achievement Award winners will be officially recognized at a banquet on February 20, 2008 during the Sixth Annual Environmental Industry Summit in Coronado, California, a national three-day learning event bringing together professionals from the environmental industry.
